• 摘要：

想像一下，材料能夠像活體組織一樣移動、感知和適應。塑料仿生肌肉，又名電活性聚合物 (Electroactive Polymer)， 正在徹底改變我們設計軟體機器人系統的方式，它能夠響應電場、濕度、光和熱等刺激，提供大尺寸、可控的形狀和體積變化。然而，長期以來，僵硬的電極限制了它們的全部潛力。本次演講將探討我們實驗室在人造肌肉領域的最新突破。我們將帶您了解最新的創新成果：從微機械電熱致動器、介電彈性體執行器，到用於機器人應用的可拉伸薄膜電極，以及可調光學和聲學技術。透過掌握軟體聚合物與柔性甚至柔順電極之間的動態介面，我們正在為機器人技術和永續技術打開變形設備和智慧系統的大門。加入我們，探索電活性聚合物如何推動軟體機器人技術的新時代。

Imagine materials that move, sense, and adapt—just like living tissue. Electroactive polymers (EAPs) are revolutionizing how we design soft robotics systems, offering large, controllable shape and volume changes in response to stimuli such as electric fields, humidity, light, and heat. Yet their full potential has long been restricted by stiff electrodes. This talk explores how recent breakthroughs in artificial muscles developed in our research laboratory.   We'll journey you through the latest innovations: from micro-machined electro-thermal actuators, dielectric elastomer actuator, and stretchable thin-film electrodes for robotic applications and tunable optics and acoustics. By mastering the dynamic interface between soft polymers and flexible and even compliant electrodes, we’re opening the door to shape-shifting devices and intelligent systems for robotics and sustainable technologies.  Join us to discover how electroactive polymers are driving a new era of soft robotic technologies.

• Biography: 

  Dr. Gih-Keong Lau is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan, and formerly an assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He earned his Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology and his M.Eng. and B.Eng. from NTU. His research focuses on micro-actuators, dielectric elastomer actuators, soft robotics, and tunable optics and acoustics, with publications in top journals such as Science Robotics, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, Applied Physics  Review and Applied Physics Letters  . A recipient of multiple awards including the 2019 NYCU Junior Chair Professor and the 2015 NTU Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship, he has also served as a visiting professor at EPFL and associate editor for IROS (2017–2019). His work has been widely recognized in international media and supported by major funding agencies in Taiwan, Singapore, and the Netherlands.  

劉義強博士現任為國立陽明交通大學機械工程系教授，曾任新加坡南洋理工大學助理教授。他取得荷蘭台夫特理工大學機械工程博士學位（2007），以及南洋理工大學碩士與學士學位（1998 及2001）。劉博士的研究專長包括微型致動器、介電彈性體致動器、軟體機器人及可調光學與聲學技術，並在《Science Robotics》、《IEEE Transactions on Robotics》、《Applied Physics  Review》、《Applied Physics Letters》等頂尖期刊發表多篇論文。他曾獲得多項榮譽，包括2019年陽明交通大學青年講座教授獎與2015年陳振傳基金會獎，並於瑞士洛桑聯邦理工學院（EPFL）擔任訪問教授，亦曾任IEEE/RSJ國際智能機器人與系統會議（IROS 2017–2019）副主編。他的研究成果廣受國際媒體關注，並獲台灣、新加坡及荷蘭多個政府與產業機構資助。

• 講題： 「單攝影機的三維立體視覺技術研究」(Research on 3D Stereo Vision Technology with Single Camera)

 

• 摘要：

三維立體視覺技術可以解決二維影像在辨識與偵測的缺點，本次演講會介紹從早期的多攝影機立體視覺偵測技術研究發展，到近年來以單攝影機發展三維影像重建與姿態偵測技術的相關發展，並探討兩種不同的硬體搭配所產生的問題與挑戰。最後會以研究團隊目前所提出的單攝影機三維立體視覺技術研究成果，與近年來所提出的單攝影機視覺同步定位與地圖構建相關方法作分析與比較。

 

3D stereo vision technologies can solve the shortcomings of 2D images in object recognition and detection. This speech will introduce the research and development of multi-camera stereo vision detection technologies and the related development of three-dimensional image reconstruction and posture detection technologies based on a single camera in recent years. The speech also discusses the problems and challenges caused by the two different hardware combinations. Finally, the research results of the single-camera 3D stereo vision technology proposed by the research team will be analyzed and compared with the single-camera Visual Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (VSLAM) related methods proposed in recent years.

• 講題： Shape Morphing and Locomotion by Buckling, Twisting, Bending and 4D Printing
• 摘要：

Conventional “hard” robots, constructed largely of metal or hard plastic elements, are widely used in manufacturing and can perform pre-programmed operations accurately and precisely, but often with limited adaptability and limited capability of handling fragile objects. By contrast, soft robots are primarily composed of soft, highly elastic materials and can deform continuously to achieve high adaptability. A unique feature of highly elastic elastomers is that they can undergo repeated buckling without much permanent deformation, which makes it possible to utilize buckling for robot locomotion. Buckling, a phenomenon of mechanical instability, is traditionally considered a mode of failure that results in a sudden and significant change in the shape of slender structures, e.g., beams, plates, and shells. However, a burgeoning trend, referred to as Buckliphilia, envisions mechanical instabilities as opportunities for new functionalities and applications. On the other hand, 4D printing, based on 3D printing, utilizes additional stimuli, such as heat, to transform the printed (simpler) structure into a new (more complex) one, reaching new design spaces unavailable to conventional methods.

 

In this talk, I summarize some studies conducted in the Multiscale Systems Laboratory (MSL) at National Taiwan University on using controlled buckling and 4D printing for shape morphing and soft robots.
